Instructions for those coming for laser surgery

When you arrive for a FemtoLasik® or Smile procedure:

  • Do not use hard contact lenses for three weeks or soft contact lenses for a week before your preliminary examination or surgery, since contact lenses can change the shape of the cornea.
  • If you still have your most recent prescription available from an ophthalmologist or optician, take it along.
  • Also take your eyeglasses along to the preliminary examination. It’s a good idea to have your sunglasses along as well, because your eyes may be sensitive to light after surgery.
  • Do not apply makeup to the face – especially the eyes – on the day of the preliminary examination or operation.

Both the preliminary examination and operation can be performed in connection with the same visit. In this case, do reserve at least three hours. Generally speaking, it’s worthwhile to have both eyes treated at the same time.

After a FemtoLasik® or Smile procedure:

  • Antibiotic cortisone drops are used for a period of one week.
  • The use of moisture drops is very important for a minimum of six months.
  • Avoid strong eyelid-squeeze movements during the first week.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes for a period of one week.
  • For a period of one week, avoid swimming, sauna-bathing, perspiration and places that are dusty or smoky as well as the application of eye makeup.
  • On the following day, you can carefully moisten the eye with water.
  • You can also drive a car the following day.

Sick-leave may be needed on a case-by-case in accordance with the sort of job you have. It’s a good idea to discuss sick leave with your employer in advance. As the operation does not concern the treatment of an illness, the employer may decide on whether or not a salary will be paid during the period.
